The Princeton City School Board of Education hired Elgin Card as the district’s next superintendent. Card will assume leadership duties on August 1, 2023.
As an energetic servant leader throughout his 30-year career, Card is known for building trust with students and staff while managing a school environment focused on learning and striving toward the future. Early in his teaching career, Card worked at Lincoln Heights Elementary School at Princeton. Following that, he became an associate principal at Lakota West Freshman in Lakota Local Schools. He returned to Princeton as a grade-level principal in the high school for two years.
Card returned to Lakota West as the head principal from 2012-2020. In 2020, Card moved to a districtwide administrative role at Lakota Local Schools. At Lakota, Card most recently serves as the Senior Director of Diversity and Inclusion and Ombudsman, where he oversees more than 17,400 students across 23 schools.
Representatives from Princeton stakeholder groups, including students, teachers, support staff, parents, business partners, community leaders, and administrators, provided input and feedback to the board throughout the interview process during focus groups, surveys, and interviews with the final two candidates.
“We had a pool of diverse, qualified, strong candidates for the search. With many charismatic and dedicated educators to choose from, we are excited to announce that Elgin Card will be returning to Princeton to become the next superintendent for the district,” said Susan Wyder, board president. “Elgin has strong connections to Princeton and knows our communities. His experience, vision, and leadership skills in education make him the ideal person for the position.”
Card said, “I am honored to return to Princeton City Schools and look forward to working with the staff and community to build on the district's successes and make a positive difference in the lives of students and continue the mission of empowering each student for college, career, and life success.”
