Princeton City School District continues superintendent search with Finding Leaders March 15, 2023 The following is a statement from the Princeton Board of Education. The Princeton Board of Education is pleased to be working with Finding Leaders to conduct a search for the district's next superintendent. Finding Leaders is a national network of experienced educators focused on helping school districts prepare for a change in leadership. Finding Leaders has conducted in-person focus groups with administrators, teachers, classified staff, parents and business leaders to gather feedback regarding their perspectives of the district and their preferred attributes for the next Superintendent. An online survey has also been posted to give all other stakeholders an opportunity to provide feedback. The online survey can be accessed until March 19 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2YLH7RK. Applications for the Princeton City School District Superintendent will be accepted through March 24. Board Interviews will be conducted during April with an expected selection of the Superintendent in late April. We are excited to share with candidates the many wonderful things taking place in our district each day. Hey 5th Graders! Dear 5th Grade Students and Parents, We are pleased to announce that it is time to begin the process to sign up for beginning band, orchestra and choir for next year. In the next several weeks we will go through the process of enrolling fifth graders so that they may be in beginning band, orchestra and choir classes when they are sixth graders at PCMS. These classes will meet as a regular part of the instructional day, and it is necessary to make instrument selection decisions this year so that students can be scheduled into the appropriate sixth grade class. Please see the process as outlined below. We encourage every one of you to become involved! 1. On March 1, 2023 Princeton District 5th graders will come to Matthews Auditorium for a special performance by the PCMS Concert Orchestra and Concert Band as an opportunity to hear how instruments sound together in a group and to begin to think about choosing an instrument for next school year. Please tear off the bottom portion of this letter and return to your elementary music teacher to indicate permission to attend this field trip. 2. March 6-22, teams of PCMS music teachers will visit each elementary school and provide detailed information about instrument and choir options, how to choose an instrument, and how to sign up for band or orchestra and choir at PCMS for the 2023-2024 school year. This will be an opportunity for your child to see and hear each instrument by itself. An informational brochure will be sent home with every 5th grader following this presentation. 3. “Try-it” night for all interested 5th graders and their parents will take place on March 22, 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Matthews Auditorium, 150 Viking Way. Students will have a chance to try the instruments and parents can have all their questions answered. Most of the instruments have a limited number of spaces available. Official SIGN UPS for 6th Grade Band, Orchestra and Choir will be available online on March 22 starting at 8:00pm. We will take students on a first-come/first-serve/best fit for you basis. Once all of the spots are filled, you will need to select a different instrument. Please note that this may be the only opportunity for students to join the band and orchestra programs at Princeton. We are trying to be very thorough in presenting information so parents and students can make a careful and informed decision about starting an instrument. Being a member of the band, orchestra and choir can provide many benefits to young people; research shows that music study contributes to academic success and character development as well as to musical and social growth. For many of our students, membership in the Princeton band, orchestra and choir becomes one of the most valuable experiences of their school years. Career-Technical Education Awareness Surveys CTE Awareness header.PNG Career-Technical Education Awareness Surveys BACKGROUND The perception of career-technical education (CTE) has come a long way in the past 30 years. In the last 5-10 years, awareness of the benefits of CTE has grown exponentially especially within the governor’s office and Ohio legislature. Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted have been great partners and proponents of the impact CTE can have in Ohio. This awareness campaign is about expanding upon what has been started and using that momentum to propel the message even further…career-technical education is for EVERYONE! CALL TO ACTION The office has contracted with Singleton & Partners, an experienced marketing firm in Cleveland, to develop a marketing campaign to promote CTE. To ensure this campaign is successful and the materials developed are useful to schools, we need as much feedback as possible from both CTE and non-CTE students, teachers, counselors, school administration and families. Surveys for both CTE and non-CTE parents/guardians, students and school staff encompassing grades 6-12 have been developed for distribution. This is where we need your help. Please take the school staff survey and then share all the surveys through appropriate communication channels. This could be via email distribution lists, social media, school message boards and business advisory councils. 2023-2024 Calendar Approved At the February 27, 2023, School Board meeting, the Princeton Board of Education approved the 2023-24 academic calendar. Highlights of the 2023-24 calendar include: Opening Convocation and First Day for Teachers is August 11. All new enrollees and students in grades 1-5, 6, and 9 start school on August 15. All students in grades 1-12 start on August 16. Kindergarten and pre-K students start August 17. Student Fall Break is October 13-17. Thanksgiving Break is November 22-24. Winter Break for students is from December 21 through January 3. No school for students February 15-19. Spring Break is from March 25 through April 1. Other student holidays include September 4 (Labor Day) and January 15 (MLK). Late Start Days for elementary and middle school students occur on the last day of the quarter: October 12, December 20, and March 15. Early Release will occur on May 24. Graduation is tentatively scheduled for May 19, 2024. The last day for students is May 24 (early release), and the last day for teachers is May 24. All District Offices are closed for Juneteenth, June 19. The approved calendar provides more than the required instructional minutes and adheres to the board’s agreement with the Princeton City School PACE and PSSA unions. Calamity Days will be made up in accordance with rulings from the State of Ohio. This calendar may be modified, pending scheduling by the Ohio Department of Education. Severe Weather 3:00 pm We are monitoring the weather situation, and the current warning in Butler County has expired. We are in constant communication with emergency management personnel in Hamilton County. We are being told that the possible tornado conditions are not headed toward our cities, villages, or townships. However, we are carefully monitoring the situation. If anything changes, we will continue to share frequent updates by email, phone, and text message via our district notification system.
