Dear Princeton Families, Community Members, and Staff,
On November 5th, our communities’ voters rejected the Princeton 5.0-mill levy proposal on the ballot. Regardless of the outcome, I would especially like to extend my gratitude to the countless volunteers who worked tirelessly to make sure our community was informed of the facts about the needs we face as a school district and community. I would also like to thank the community members who came out to support our schools on the ballot.
Unfortunately, the district’s needs do not go away with failure. A year of uncollected taxes means that $10.6 million will need to be reduced to balance our budget and stay within the policies to have a Five-year compliant forecast. The Princeton Board of Education will soon begin to review and prepare to make necessary cuts and reductions. We will continue to make every decision with the best interest of our students in mind. We simply cannot have what we cannot afford. Reductions will have a significant impact on the experience we provide at Princeton City Schools.
No decisions have been made about a future ballot issue. I promise to keep you informed about the future of our schools. We have been mindful of our taxpayer dollars, and we will continue to stretch our budget as much as possible. Thank you for your dedication and for remaining committed to living our mission each day of empowering each student for college, career, and life success.
