Letter from the Principal

Welcome Back to our new and returning Woodlawn Elementary families!

We are gearing up for a cosmic out of this world school year! The stars are all aligned to begin a fantastic year for learning and growing. As we wish upon a star, it is our greatest hope that the students, staff and the community strive to foster strong relationships through connectivity. We are over the moon with excitement for the start of the new school year on August 15, 2023 (Grades 1-5 only) and August 17, 2023 (PreK & Kindergarten will start).

Our expert teaching teams are committed to empowering every student for College, Career & Life Success! We want every student to keep his/her eyes on the stars (Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies) and feet firmly planted on the ground for we know that our students are equipped with the power to create their own constellations that leads to success. No star will be left behind! In fact, our journey this year will encompass exposure to a rigorous curriculum and implementation of high yield strategies to ensure true authentic learning experiences. Our children will believe that they are shining stars no matter who they are. Stars shining bright for all to see, while discovering who and what they can truly be

In the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, we will strive to REACH FOR THE STARS to obtain a 5-star rating in each category on the state report card. I am very pleased to share that our 2022-2023 school year preliminary data suggest that our current report has an overall rating of 4 stars. This is amazing news for all to celebrate! Therefore, we look forward to creating future goals that fuels passion within our students to continue to own their learning.
The staff and I will continue to set high expectations for student achievement. In doing so, we will shine together like the moon and the stars.

In closing, our theme this year will be" Aim High, Reach for The Stars while Aspiring to Be
the Best." Although this is an ambitious goal, it is definitely possible with your support. We encourage you to volunteer, attend student engagement activities and keep the lines of communication open. The sky is the limit for great things to come. Therefore, we encourage families to be a star by signing up for PFO (Parent, Faculty, Organization). Remember, "There is a light in all that shines as brightly as the strongest star in the sky." Let's work together to have a luminous year full of adventure and excellence.

Kind Regards,

Principal Thompson
