Congratulations to our January VIKING VIPs!
Kindergarten: Sofia and Nathan
Sofia consistently demonstrates the ability to seek first to understand. She is always eager to help her classmates and actively listens to their ideas and concerns. Sofia's support for her friends in their learning journeys is truly inspiring, as she fosters a collaborative environment that encourages everyone to succeed.
Nathan is a Proactive student. He is also an organized student. He always completes his work, is responsible for his work and keeps his things where they belong.
1st Grade: Caleha and Jynesia
Caleha exemplifies Habit 5: Seek First to Understand by actively listening and responding with kindness and understanding. She excels in using cooperative learning strategies. Caleha is a great cooperative learning leader!
I am so honored and overjoyed to announce Jynesia as our January Viking VIP! She has worked so hard to earn this award and displays habit five everyday. Jynesia is an amazing listener in class not only with her teachers but also with her peers. She communicates well and is an extremely kind friend. I am so proud of how far she has come, keep it up!
2nd Grade: Darrielle and Ge’Mani
Darrielle embodies Habit 5- Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood. She is such a great listener in class, a good conversationalist and is incredibly patient. She brings peace and positivity to 2nd grade. I am beyond glad she came to Lincoln Heights this year and am proud of how amazing she is doing in 2nd grade. Keep it up Darrielle!
Ge'Mani is neither quick to anger or judge. When things happen (and they always will with life!) he observes the situation, talks it through with others, and comes up with a solution that works for everyone. Seeking first to understand, and then be understood is one of the hardest skills to master and Ge'Mani is well on his way. I am proud of having a leader like Ge'Mani in my room.
3rd Grade: Nahshya and Aidah
Nahshya was an easy choice for a student who consistently displays Habit 5- seek first to understand then to be understood. This habit can be difficult for some, but Nahshya makes it look easy. She is always leaving space for others to talk and explain themselves and is always looking at things from others perspectives. Nahshya is a great friend and leader and I am super proud of her!
Aidah is a leader in many ways, but shows her phenomenal leadership skills in exhibiting habit 5 almost daily. Whether working as a team, enjoying recess with a friend, or solving a conflict, Aidah excels at listening to all peers and adults. She truly hears what is said and then follows up with a response. Her response is always meaningful, kind, and shows that she truly is a problem solver. Keep it up Aidah- we are so, so proud of you!!
4th Grade: Hannah and Deangela
Hannah exemplifies habit 5: seek first to understand, then to be understood. She always listens carefully to her peers before sharing her own insights. By giving others the space to voice their opinions without interruption, she demonstrates patience and respect, and she effectively summarizes their ideas before adding her perspective. Keep up the fantastic work!
Deangela is a fantastic member of our class. Everyone benefits because of her kindness and understanding. Deangela is a great teammate because she always listens to other people's ideas and sees things from their point of view. We are thankful for her!
5th Grade: Kevin and Jernei
Our Kind Kevin is almost never in conflict with others. Seeking first to understand, than to be understood is definitely a skill Kevin has. Kevin seems to have the best intentions about the way that he treats people. That is why he is Mrs. Miller’s Viking VIP.
Jernei is always willing to help others. She always comes to school prepared and ready to learn. She never gives up and is always willing to learn something new.
Specials: Sofia, Caleah and Aaliyah
Sofia always listens carefully to her friends when they talk about their art, making sure she understands what they’re saying before sharing her ideas. She always asks questions and waits her turn, making sure everyone feels heard and included. It is for this reason I have chosen her.
When Caleah first joined us at Lincoln Heights Elementary, she jumped in with our music lesson. She listened intently to instructions and did her best. When she didn't understand, she asked questions. She does not seem to be quick to anger when things happen. She observes and asks questions.
Aaliyah is always a leader and an example of Habit 5. She is an attentive listener, (she uses both her eyes and her ears), she considers others, and takes time to think before she shares her ideas.
