Today is National American Sign Language Day!
Did you know that ASL is a language completely foreign from English, with its own grammar, vocabulary, and syntax? The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language recognizes it as a totally unique World Language!
We are so fortunate to have Ms. Daniels and Ms. Berscheit in our Foreign Language department. They prepare students for careers supporting deaf and hard of hearing people, as well as people living with various disabilities, who rely on ASL to communicate. We have had many students go on to study ASL in college and become interpreters, thanks to the courses that we offer here at Princeton!
Also, special shoutout to Ms. Sohngen for making it possible for deaf and hard of hearing students to learn alongside their hearing peers.
If you see them in the hallway, give them a shoutout for the important work they do for our Princeton High School Family!
