Mr. Steve Watson, 8th Grade Science Teacher, Science Co-Department Chair
Mr. Watson goes above and beyond what is necessary to provide opportunities for his students to learn. He is conscientious and empathetic and always seeks different ways to reach his students. Mr. Watson advocates for a rigorous curriculum that is engaging for the students. He is always looking for new ways to help engage the students in the world of science and will go to great lengths to make sure his students have a highly quality, engaging education. He is relentless in pushing hands-on learning activities for 8th-grade science students. Some examples of this are field trips: Fossil Park and iFly, teachers vs. students cardboard boat challenges at the pool, and science demonstrations that include gasses and explosions. His love of students extends beyond the classroom, as he has coached track and football for years.
Mr. Watson’s remarkable strengths as an educator extend to his interactions with colleagues, where he serves as a beacon of positivity and collaboration. He is an important member of our Building Leadership Team leading the way with pedagogy practices, mastery of GRID learning, cooperative learning implementation on teacher-based teams, and being an advocate for his staff. He pushes his students and staff around him to continuously grow as students and educators. As a colleague, he is willing to help all staff with various tasks and rarely says no, despite how busy he might be. His willingness to share resources, exchange ideas, and offer support enriches the professional community and strengthens the collective efforts toward student success. He is the type of educator who will always find a way to make the curriculum better no matter how difficult the task is, as long as it leads to higher-quality assignments for the students.
